• A fog-like mist or cloud of vaporized oil and air mixture heated above its ignition temperature and out of its container seeking an ignition source--will cause an explosion which can blow down walls and floors

---produced when a burner is running for long periods of time, is shut down, and then called on for more heat very shortly afterwards

---if there is a delay in ignition, the mixture is vaporized, expands, and fills its surroundings

• To protect life and prevent ignition:

1. Immediately evacuate the building

2. Do not enter the cloud for any reason

3. Shut down remote control using SCBA and fog nozzle on wide pattern as protection

4. Use the fog nozzle to saturate and cool the cloud

5. Vent the area

6. Secure any other sources of ignition

7. Shut off fuel

8. Inform owner to have burner inspected
